How you train
Strongman & Odd Implements

Real strongman work takes heavy implements and room to move. We stocked our gym with a log press, farmer's carry handles, fat bars, and a turf runway to load, carry, and drag. Train events the right way on a space built for it 24/7.
Strongman is picking up awkward weight, carrying it, and putting it overhead. It builds grip, a strong back and a lot of work capacity, and you don't have to compete to train like it.
What you'll use
Log press · farmers handles · fat bars · turf runway
The implements
The Valor log bar is for the log clean and press, the classic strongman overhead lift. Farmer's handles load up for heavy carries down the turf. Fat bars turn any pull or press into a grip test. The racks, platforms and plate-loaded machines cover the rest of your training.
A sample event day
- Warm up, then work up to a few heavy singles or doubles on the log.
- Farmer's carries: 3 to 5 runs down the turf with a weight you can hold the whole way.
- Finish with fat bar holds or deadlifts for grip, and carries if you have anything left.
Starting out
Start lighter than you think, especially on the log: the clean is a skill. Keep the carries short until your grip catches up, and rest longer between runs than you would between sets. The reverse hyper is a good way to finish a heavy day.
